Who am I?
I am an investment advisor and certified financial planner with an independent, for-fee financial planning firm, Stonehaven Financial Group Inc. For regulatory and business reasons we are associated with the London Life and Great West insurance companies and DundeeWealth Inc. The latter is an independent and wholly-owned subsidiary of Scotia Financial Group. My colleagues and I have over 85 years of collective experience in investment management and financial planning.
I hold the following professional designations:
CFA – The Chartered Financial Analyst designation is the investment industry’s equivalent to a CA or MBA. It requires a minimum of 750 hours of study and the successful completion of three, six hour exams. Less than 2% of all licensed advisors in Canada hold this designation.
CFP® – The Certified Financial Planner is the premier financial planning designation that involves the study of retirement, tax and estate planning strategies. The six hour exam is successfully completed by only about half of those who write it in any given year.
CSA – Certified Senior Advisors are educated in the needs of the post 65 population. It recognizes that this is not a homogeneous group and that at various times seniors have substantially different needs.
In addition I am insurance licensed and hold the requisite industry qualifications including the CSC, CPH, CIM I and PFPC.
Professionally, I am a member of the CFA Institute, the Toronto CFA Society and I chair the Private Client Committee of the Society.
Personally, I am married and have two hockey fanatic sons. We live in central Toronto and I enjoy skiing, sailing and do-it-yourself projects when I am not opening the player doors at one arena or another.
What do I do?
I empower my clients to achieve their life goals through a holistic approach to personal planning.
Why I do what I do?
I believe that sound planning forms the basis for the achievement of all life goals. Without it, investing and other decisions do not have a context. A plan has to be fluid and reflect an individual’s need and circumstances at appropriate times throughout their life. Planning also helps reduce the risk associated with living.
How do I do what I do?
Relationships follow a prescribed process beginning with an introductory, no-charge, no-obligation meeting. In it we determine, if we would like to work together.
If we agree to work together, we establish the terms of our relationship and move on to a profile meeting. Here we establish focus and identify any priority needs requiring immediate action. The profile meeting is the time we identify your vision, values, goals and strategies.
The second step is the ‘discovery stage”. This is where we ensure that we correctly understood what you told us and where we obtain clarity.
In the third step we effect strategy inventory and plan development, do all the research, work with other experts and develop and present creative recommendations that are a great fit, so that you can make decisions with confidence .
The fourth stage is where execution begins. Here we implement the recommendations with your priorities and your authorization which achieves results .
The final and ongoing stage is where progress towards your plan is continually measured and with rechecking to your vision, values, goals, and strategies.
In investment management process we apply the principles of CFA Institute’s “Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct” (copy attached). These principles require the maintenance of a high level of professionalism where client’s needs are first and where all potential conflicts of interest including all fees and commissions are disclosed.
Who have I done it for?
My clients include senior managers and professionals from many walks of life. Some use my guidance to develop a comprehensive financial plan as well as a sound investment strategy. Others access the resources of DundeeWealth Inc., the Scotia Bank Group and London Life/Great West insurance companies through me.
Why am I different?
The for-fee financial planning and fee-based investment management approach sets me apart from most other investment advisors whose practices are based on the sale of product that generate commissions.
Why You should do business with Me?
My clients receive a level of service and support that they weren’t receiving from any of their previous relationships. This can be true for you. You can expect to have a relationship that is based on the needs of you and your family. To quote a long time client, “Geoff Parker provides a straight forward, warm and sincere approach to financial planning advice. He is truly interested in his client's total welfare; a refreshing approach to managing relationships. What you see is what you get with Geoff.”
